Dunsborough and Eagle Bay residents have the chance to roll up their sleeves and take part in two hands-on community workshops focused on woody weed control and helping to protect wildlife.

Held on Saturday, June 28, the Woody Weeds & Wildlife events will empower locals to better manage invasive woody weeds on their properties while learning how to support native animals displaced by habitat loss.

Presented in partnership with Cape Naturaliste Conservation Enterprise, weed control expert Rick Ensley, and wildlife carer Suzi Strapp from FAWNA Inc., each free workshop will offer a mix of expert knowledge, hands-on demonstrations and community connection.

“These events are a great opportunity for anyone who cares about the local environment — from bush block owners to home gardeners — to learn how to make a real difference,” said Nature Conservation Margaret River Region officer Chloe Deakin.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to identify and safely remove woody weeds
  • Understand the use of herbicides and best-practice weed management
  • Gain insight into the native wildlife that shelter in woody weeds
  • Find out what to do if displaced animals are discovered on their property
  • Have the chance to bring a weed sample for identification — and swap it for a native plant!

The day kicks off with a morning session in Eagle Bay, followed by an afternoon session in Dunsborough:

  • Eagle Bay Hall: 10:00am – 12:00pm, 30 Fern Road, Eagle Bay
  • Dunsborough Community Hall: 2:00pm – 4:00pm, 44 Gifford Road, Dunsborough
