A highly experienced leader with a background in heading up large conservation organisations in Australia and New Zealand is the new head of Nature Conservation Margaret River Region.
Aaron Jaggar is today confirmed as the new chief executive officer of the Margaret River region’s peak conservation group.
He has moved to the region with his partner Sarah from Christchurch, New Zealand where he was working as the General Manager of Conservation Volunteers New Zealand for the last decade. It’s a national group coordinating thousands of volunteers and over 60 employees aimed at connecting people who love nature and want to make a difference to their community and the natural world.
Mr Jaggar completed a Masters of Environmental Management and held various leadership roles for Conservation Volunteers. He has a passion for nature, conservation and people, and loves hiking and surfing in his spare time. The new head of Nature Conservation said he was looking forward to the role and helping to boost outcomes for the unique and special environment in the Margaret River region.
New CEO keen to join passionate Nature Conservation team
“I’m really looking forward to joining the passionate team at Nature Conservation Margaret River Region. Since 2002, they’ve worked tirelessly to protect and restore one of the world’s most unique biodiversity places,” he said.
“Now more than ever, we need to collaborate with our partners and community to ensure this extraordinary environment thrives for future generations. I hope to bring my passion, experience, and leadership to support and strengthen this important work.”
Mr Jaggar replaces outgoing Nature Conservation general manager Drew McKenzie who stepped down after three years as general manager, during which time he drove a big expansion of the organisation’s reach and impact.
A real coup for the Margaret River region
Nature Conservation chair Dr Ann Ward said securing a leader of Mr Jaggar’s extensive experience and ability was a huge coup for the organisation and for our region.
“Aaron is a very capable manager who brings a wealth of experience and real passion to our team,” Dr Ward said. “We’re very excited to welcome him and his partner Sarah to Nature Conservation Margaret River Region and to the community. “I’m sure Aaron will be a real asset to the care of our environment and to our organisation. He’s very warm, and he’s prepared to listen and learn.”
Dr Ward said Nature Conservation was focussed on driving environmental protection and restoration through its many on-ground programs, as well as through advocacy and collaboration with key partners, stakeholders and government.
